The eight-episode thriller promises a whirlwind of deception, action, firearms, violence, and more. Created and executive produced by The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick writer Peter Craig , the series is based on Dennis Tafoya's novel of the same name.
Academy Award-nominated director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Napoleon) not only serves as an executive producer but also directs the first episode, setting the stage for what appears to be one of Apple TV+'s most intense series to date. The series premieres on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 14, 2025, with weekly releases every Friday through April 25, 2025. The Dope Thief trailer introduces us to Henry's character, Ray, a lifelong Philadelphia hustler who, alongside his best friend and criminal partner Manny (played by Wagner Moura, Civil War), decides to pose as DEA agents to rob what they believe is a minor drug operation. However, their simple con quickly spirals out of control when they unknowingly stumble upon one of the most powerful narcotics networks on the East Coast, placing them in the crosshairs of ruthless criminals who are not fond of amateurs disrupting their business.What begins as a small-time scam transforms into a deadly game of survival, forcing Ray and Manny to make increasingly terrible choices to ensure their survival. Whether Manny and Ray will make it out alive remains to be seen, but the three-minute trailer suggests they're in for the fight of their lives.
