Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry were selected as the backcourt representatives for the Western Conference starting lineup, joining Phoenix's Kevin Durant, Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James, and Denver's Nikola Jokic.
Doncic has only appeared in 22 games this season, but he has maintained an impressive average of 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.1 assists. However, his limited playing time disqualifies him from All-NBA and MVP honors, which might have influenced the voters' decisions. Irving, with his consistent performance and efficient production this season, stood as the Mavericks' backcourt's most likely candidate to secure a starting spot. He's averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists while shooting a career-high 42.7% from beyond the arc. Despite this, he has missed 10 games due to injuries and illness.Leading MVP contender Gilgeous-Alexander was likely one of the two guaranteed starters in the Western Conference, alongside Jokic. The Thunder star recently achieved a career-high 54 points and aims to guide his team past the Mavericks on Thursday night. Curry, despite the Warriors' struggles to secure a playoff spot, enjoys the unofficial role of host for the weekend's festivities since it's being held in the Bay Area. Although he wasn't named an All-Star starter, Doncic secured the third spot in Western Conference backcourt voting, according to TNT host Ernie Johnson. He ranked third in fan voting, sixth in players voting, and fourth in media voting. Fans constituted 50% of the vote to determine the starters, while current NBA players and a media panel each accounted for 25%. The Eastern Conference starting lineup features former New York Knicks and Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson, alongside Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns. Doncic and Irving, particularly Irving, remain contenders for All-Star selections as head coaches will vote for the reserves. These names will be revealed next Thursday
