Hunters can donate deer meat that will be processed and dispersed to local food pantries.

TOLEDO, Ohio - Deer season begins at the end of September and lasts until February. Deer gun season starts Dec. 1 and lasts through Dec. 7. This is when firearms are permitted to hunt deer and this period of time is normally when the most deer are harvested.

is hosting Deer Donation Days for the very first time, where hunters can donate their deer. The meat will then be processed and dispersed to local food pantries. The only cost to the hunter is a hunting license and a deer permit for each deer. Each deer must also have been recently harvested, unprocessed and taken to a drop-off location. See dates, times, and locations below: “We do have people who like to get out there and like to hunt, or maybe they can only eat one or two deer a year, but they want to keep hunting there are great programs so that they can donate their deer to and help the less fortunate,” says Sarah Schott who is the wildlife communications specialist for the Ohio Division of Wildlife.. There are several locations across the state of Ohio, including Northwest Ohio, such as St. Mary’s Meats in Swanton. “We’ve teamed up with a lot of churches and food banks. Some up in Michigan, some of them are in Bryan, some even local.
