Rep. Byron Donalds , who has entered the race to be the next speaker of the House, said Sunday he doubts the prolonged fight over the position will damage his party in the 2024 general election.
Donalds announced his bid for speaker on Friday, shortly after Rep. Jim Jordan failed to gain the necessary votes in three voting rounds last week. As the United States continues to support Ukraine's defense against Russia while also aiding Israel after the terrorist organization Hamas launched a deadly strike earlier this month, Donalds stressed a need for a"strategic vision" on both fronts.
"Number one, we have to evaluate what Ukraine already has. But number two, if the White House is going to say their primary mission now is funding Ukraine, then they need to defund one of their other priorities," Donalds added.
