'The Washington Post' suggested Trump is angry military planning is seemingly outpacing his diplomatic efforts.

President Donald Trump is concerned his senior advisers are pushing him towards a military conflict with Iran, even though the president would prefer to solve the current confrontation via diplomatic means, according to a new report.

According to the Post, Trump is angry that he is being outpaced by military planning preparing for conflict with Iran. A senior administration official with knowledge of Trump’s thoughts on National Security Adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explained: “They are getting way out ahead of themselves, and Trump is annoyed.”

However, according to the anonymous official that spoke with the Post, Bolton is “just in a different place” to the president. He claims Trump “wants to talk to the Iranians; he wants a deal” and is willing to sit down with the Iranian government to achieve one. A senior White House official said Trump does not wish to take action unless there is a “big move” made by the Iranians. But in the case of a significant escalation from Tehran or any American deaths, the president would be willing to take action, the official added.

The Post claimed that Pentagon officials—led by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairperson Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford—are united in advising deterrence and diplomacy over war. The view is reportedly shared by civilian officials led by Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, nominated by Trump last week to stay in office permanently.
