com reports, “has received more than a billion dollars in NIH funding in recent years.” So these cuts will not only affect the scientific research; they’ll also negatively impact the broader economies of these states. “People need to be reminded that UAB is not just the largest employer in the city,” Birmingham mayor Randall Woodfin explained to the outlet. “It’s the largest employer in the state.” Pennsylvania, too, is in the crosshairs.
