Donald Trump's Influence Over GOP Stung by Virginia Election Surprise

Former President Donald Trump's influence on the election in Virginia's 5th Congressional District may not have been as significant as he would have liked, as the Republican primary race is still too close to call.With 98 percent of the ballots counted, the Associated Press reported, state Senator John McGuire, whom Trump has endorsed, led incumbent Representative Bob Good by just 327 votes .

On June 4, Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, a New Jersey Senate hopeful Trump endorsed in the primary race, lost heavily to Curtis Bashaw, a real estate developer.Newsweek has contacted Trump's office for comment via email.Though the GOP primary election for Virginia's 5th Congressional District has not been called, McGuire declared himself the victor Tuesday night.
