A 49-page indictment unsealed on Friday revealed that Donald Trump faces 37 felony counts that could result in a substantial prison sentence in the event of a conviction. Thirty-one counts pertain to the willful retention of national defense information, the balance relating to alleged conspiracy, obstruction and false statements,
The indictment centers on hundreds of classified documents that Trump took with him from the White House to Mar-a-Lago upon leaving office in January 2021. The former president spent the weekend insisting that he has done nothing wrong and was the victim of a political persecution. He is continuing to campaign, delivering remarks atTrump arrived at his Miami resort on Monday, and will head to his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club after his court appearance to deliver a speech on Tuesday night.
