BREAKING: Donald Trump blasts China for lying that the US military created coronavirus
Speaking with the cornavirus task force at the White House on Tuesday, President Trump said: ‘China was putting out information that was false, saying that our military gave it to them.‘Our military did not give it to them… I think saying our military gave to them creates a stigma’Trump went on to accuse China of making ‘horrific’ mistakes with its handling the 2009 swine flu crisis, which killed an estimated 17,000 people there.
The US president and the Chinese government have been embroiled in a war of words after the president repeatedly branded coronavirus ‘the Chinese virus.’ That saw Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Geng Shuang accuse Trump of ‘stigmatizing’ the Chinese over coronavirus, which first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in November 2019.‘The United States should mind its own business first, and then make constructive contributions to the international counter-epidemic collaboration and the maintenance of global public health security.’
Unnamed Beijing officials previously accused the US of deliberately planting coronavirus in China in a bid to undermine their economy. Trump’s ‘Chinese flu’ tweets have also seen tens of thousands of people signing an official White House petition calling on him to apologize.
