PETALING JAYA: While people are more relaxed during the holiday period, they should be vigilant when they travel, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
“We should not let our guard down during the festive season because we may fall victim to various dangers while travelling.
“These include health risks such as food poisoning, dehydration and the absence of medication; theft and crime; and accidents during the journey,” said the Alliance for Safe Community founder and chairman in a statement yesterday.To avoid these risks, Lee advised travellers to research their destination and become familiar with potential dangers.
Additionally, he said travellers should also check travel advisories, purchase proper travel insurance, beware of their surroundings at all times, stay connected and share their itinerary with someone they trust. Considering the increasing danger of falling victim to scammers who pose as taxi drivers or security personnel, Lee said the public must also always keep up with the news and stay alert.
He recommended informing neighbours and residents associations of travel plans, sharing phone numbers with them, and not leaving any valuables at home.
