Dominican Republic coach Nestor Garcia is not about to take Gilas Pilipinas lightly.
Shortly upon touching down Manila on Monday night, Garcia, in a chance interview among local reporters, pointed to the presence of Utah Jazz superstar Jordan Clarkson as the reason why they are way of the Philippines, which is expecting a massive crowd to rally behind Gilas when the two teams clash on opening night on Friday, August 25 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.Jordan Clarkson FIBA PHOTO'Clarkson is a starter you know, and we know he's very dangerous.
Clarkson has played in two of the Philippines' last three tuneup matches against Ivory Coast and Montenegro.Gilas routed Ivory Coast, 85-62, but dropped a 102-87 decision to Montenegro, despite Clarkson's 27 points.Karl-Anthony Towns, Dominican Republic's main man in the FIBA World Cup, also greeted Filipino fans with how much he recognized their tweets in recent years.'To my Filipino fans, thank you for all the support,' said the 27-year-old, three-time NBA All-Star big man.
