A man suspected of domestic violence who made statements to officers about having a gun was shot late Saturday by Lafayette police officers.

According to a Lafayette police news release, the 41-year-old man was shot at 11:59 p.m. Saturday after two plainclothes officers and two uniformed officers tried to contact him in the 700 block of South Lafayette Drive. One of the officers shot the man after he ran from them, displayed a knife and made statements about having a gun, police say.

Prior to the Saturday night incident, police had responded to calls at the address, according to Lafayette Deputy Chief Brian Rosipajla. The man was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center for treatment after receiving a gunshot wound to his leg, and remains in stable condition, said Rosipajla. None of the officers were injured.

Officials Sunday declined to specify which officer pulled the trigger; however, according to the press release, the officer who pulled the trigger was placed on administrative leave per department protocol while the Boulder Critical Incident Team investigates the shooting. That team is a task force of members of Boulder County law enforcement agencies that investigates any deadly or potentially deadly uses of force by law enforcement in the county.

The suspect was wanted for domestic violence, menacing, third-degree assault, harassment, and violation of a protection order, according to the release. Additional charges are pending after the man is arrested after being released from the hospital.
