The Athletic ’s annual wrapped up Thursday, with Dom Luszczyszyn’s point-projection model naming the and the Western and Eastern conferences’ top teams, respectively. Projections and predictions are always ripe for second-guessing, reality-checking and 20/20 hindsight. is proof enough of that.
There are definite problems, but a healthy version of the Canadiens will be very deep at forward, which could make them a difficult opponent rolling out four lines and forechecking teams to death all over the ice. They remain the worst team in the division, but I still think projecting only a 3.5-point bump from last season — when basically half the team was injured for half the season — is not giving them quite enough credit when reasonably healthy.
