Dolton residents marched to Governor Pritzker's home in Chicago, demanding action against Mayor Tiffany Henyard following the cancellation of the village's employee life insurance policy.
Activists began their march from Dolton to Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's home in Chicago's Gold Coast early Tuesday morning, demanding action against embattled Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard. The protest originated after Dolton village trustees learned at a Monday evening meeting that the life insurance policy for all village employees had been canceled due to nonpayment. Mayor Henyard was absent from the meeting.
Jedidiah Brown, a prominent activist leading the march, criticized Governor Pritzker for inaction, stating, 'The governor can't keep kicking the can down the road. He said he was going to support Lori Lightfoot's investigation. Her investigation alleged malfeasance, utilizing public funds for personal gain.' Brown emphasized the repeated concerns raised by Dolton residents with both Governor Pritzker and other elected officials, questioning their commitment to addressing local issues. 'While they're posturing on national issues against Trump, are they going to do anything about local issues under their roof?' Brown exclaimed. 'They gotta act.' The marchers planned to hold a protest upon reaching Governor Pritzker's residence. While some activists walked, others followed in cars. By early Tuesday morning, only a small group remained on the journey.
