Parton's publicist confirmed Dean's death to The Associated Press, stating that he died on Monday in Nashville, Tennessee. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, and the cause of death has not been released. Dean will be laid to rest in a private ceremony attended by his immediate family.Parton expressed her grief in a heartfelt statement following her husband's passing.
'Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years,' she said. 'Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.' The couple's love story began when Parton, at the age of 18, moved to Nashville. Their paths crossed outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat, where Dean made a memorable impression on Parton. 'I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me),' Parton once shared. 'He seemed to be genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about.'Two years later, they wed on May 30, 1966, in a small ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia. Dean, a private man, owned an asphalt-paving company in Nashville. Despite his wife's global fame, he largely preferred to stay out of the spotlight and rarely made public appearances. Dean was one of three children born to Virginia 'Ginny' Bates Dean and Edgar 'Ed' Henry Dean. Parton often spoke fondly of his mother, affectionately calling her 'Mama Dean.'
