.TheJusticeDept was prepared to apply for search warrant for POTUS Biden documents had he not cooperated: Report
Biden has stressed that he was cooperative with federal investigators, but a trove of classified documents at his Wilmington, Delaware, home wasn't turned over until after"high stakes" negotiations between the DOJ and Biden's attorneys, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
Though the possibility never came to fruition due to Biden's apparent cooperation with investigators, the revelation shows how close the situation came to becoming as dramatic as last year's FBI raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home.“You want to have people looking at things, know what to look for. Attorneys don’t collect evidence — that would be FBI.
Following Biden's cooperation, law enforcement only searched his residence after his own attorneys had done a search. Attorney General Merrick Garland has brushed off criticisms that allege he went easier on Biden than Trump.“These mean among other things that we do not have different rules for Democrats or Republicans, different rules for the powerful and powerless, different rules for the rich or for the poor,” he said.
“We apply the facts and the law in each case in a neutral, nonpartisan manner," he added."That is what we always do, and that is what we do in the matters that you’re referring to.”
