“The brutal crimes happened here in the Philippines. The families of the victims are here in the Philippines. So, we want justice to be served here in the Philippines,” DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano said yesterday. As a result, a team from the National Bureau of Investigation that went to Dili to take custody of Teves returned on Sunday empty handed.
“If there is a scenario where he can be brought back to the country, then we will undergo trial because we’re confident that the case of the government is weak,” he said.Aside from bringing the case to the UN, the camp of Teves said they are also looking at applying again for political asylum for Teves.
However, according to Topacio, “neither deportation nor extradition is on the table at this point in the proceedings.”
