The U.S. Department of Justice filed an amended lawsuit alleging that major landlords conspired to inflate rents across the nation using a price-fixing algorithm. While Ohio Attorney General David Yost has not committed to investigating the software company RealPage due to its limited presence in the state, he indicated Ohio may join the lawsuit if compelling evidence emerges from other states. In response to the DOJ's actions, Cortland Management agreed to cease using competitors' data and cooperate with the investigation.
An amended U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit alleges that some of the nation's largest landlords participated in a scheme that artificially inflated rents, harming renters across the nation.
Despite the pressure, Yost has not committed to investigating RealPage, citing the company's limited presence in Ohio. "If those states end up producing evidence that I am convinced the legal theory is well-founded, we will certainly join the lawsuit or file our own," he said.
