The Department of Justice (DOJ) has recommended that charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams be dropped due to concerns about pre-trial publicity and the timing of the charges. Acting second-in-command Emil Bove argued that the case should be dismissed without prejudice, meaning the DOJ could potentially reopen it after the 2025 general election.
Eric Adams , mayor of New York, center, during the 60th presidential inauguration in Emancipation Hall of the US Capitol in Washington, DC, US, on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025., the DOJ ’s acting second-in-command Emil Bove said the case should be dismissed because of the timing of when Manhattan federal prosecutors brought the charges and “ pre-trial publicity that risks impacting potential witnesses and the jury pool.
Bove said the charges should be dropped “without prejudice,” meaning DOJ could reopen the case.
