.MaddowBlog: Dept. of Justice won’t say if a president can ask for foreign probe of rival.
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing this morning on election security and, as the Associated Press reported, the witnesses were asked if they believe it’s inappropriate for an American president to ask a foreign government to investigate a domestic rival. The answers were encouraging – for the most part.
A deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s national security division, Adam Hickey, said he would not comment on the president’s activities. What amazes me about incidents like these is how easy the question should be to answer. Heck, even Sen. Ted Cruz knows how to answer it properly.
