Also citing data from BuCor, Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete told CNN Philippines that 21 inmates were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 infection, while 24 others were suspected cases. “Humingi kasi si Secretary Guevarra ng detailed documents which would show not only the names, the offense, but also the cause of death and kung may existing comorbidities ‘yung PDL. At the same time, hiningi rin ni Secretary Guevarra ‘yung death certificate ng bawat PDL,” he said.On the other hand, Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairperson Richard Gordon said BuCor chief Director General Bantag and other bureau officials may face charges for mishandling the deaths of the high-profile inmates.
