AFTER a delay of nearly four hours on Thursday, July 30, 2020, the Department of Health reported a new high in the daily tally of coronavirus infections with almost 4,000 new cases which brought the total case count to nearly 90,000.

In its case bulletin issued at almost 8 p.m. Thursday, the DOH reported 3,954 additional confirmed cases which increased the total caseload to 89,374. Sixty-six duplicates were removed from the total.Twenty-three additional deaths were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 1,983. Under this methodology, cases with mild symptoms or no symptoms whose date of onset of illness or specimen collection was more than 14 days ago are tagged as recovered.

Of the 3,954 new cases, 1,320 cases are fresh cases and 2,634 are late cases. Fresh cases refer to patients whose test results were released in the last three days while late cases refer to results released more than four days ago.Among the new cases, the highest were from the National Capital Region , with 1,703, followed by Cebu with 958, Laguna with 177, Rizal with 90, and Cavite with 87.
