Pamela Jane Rock, 61, of Melrose, Florida, was flown to a trauma center in Gainesville, Fla., following the attack in the Interlachen Lake Estates area, but she died Monday of her wounds.
INTERLACHEN, Florida — A 61-year-old postal worker was killed Sunday when she was mauled by a pack of dogs after her postal vehicle broke down in a rural area, authorities say.
The sheriff’s office says witnesses heard a woman screaming for help. When they went outside, they saw Rock on the ground being attacked by five dogs. Several neighbors tried to pull the dogs off of Rock, with one person firing a rifle into the ground and into the air in an attempt to scare them off, the sheriff’s office says.
Animal Control took custody of the five dogs and they will be euthanized, the sheriff’s office says. There were no reports of arrests but the incident remains under investigation. The dogs reportedly escaped from the yard by moving rocks lining the bottom of the fence, authorities say.
