A former employee of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has resigned following revelations about his online activities. The Wall Street Journal exposed the individual's social media account, which espoused racist views, including support for 'eugenic immigration policies' and opposition to the Civil Rights Act.
Marko Elez, a 25-year-old employee of Elon Musk 's so-called Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), has resigned from his position following inquiries from The Wall Street Journal regarding his connections to a social media account that promoted a 'eugenic immigration policy' and expressed other racist views. The Journal reported this on Thursday.
Elez was assigned to the Treasury Department, where he reportedly had direct access to Treasury Department systems responsible for nearly all payments made by the U.S. government. Earlier on Thursday, a district court judge imposed limitations on Elez's and another DOGE staffer's ability to share this sensitive Treasury data.Elez also worked for Musk at SpaceX, Starlink, and X, according to the Journal. The X account, which was deleted in December, used the handle @nullllptr—a misspelling of a keyword in the C++ programming language, the Journal reported. However, the account previously operated under the username @marko_elez, based on archived posts reviewed by the outlet. The individual behind the @nullllptr account also identified themselves as an employee at SpaceX and Starlink. In posts over the summer, @nullllptr declared, 'Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool,' and in September, stated, 'You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity.' The account also advocated for the reversal of the Civil Rights Act. In response to the Journal's reporting, journalist Edward Ongweso Jr. wrote on X: 'Skull. Measuring. Freaks.
