The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, has canceled over $180 million in contracts from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including a nearly $170,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has canceled over $180 million in contracts within a 48-hour period, including a nearly $170,000 contract for an exhibit dedicated to Anthony Fauci at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Museum. This announcement was made by the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ) on Friday via social media. 'In the past 48 hours, HHS canceled 62 contracts worth $182 million,' the DOGE post stated.

'These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses – none touched any healthcare programs. This included terminating a $168,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit at the NIH Museum.' This move comes amidst DOGE's, led by billionaire Elon Musk, ongoing efforts to redefine government spending patterns. Over the past few weeks, DOGE has unveiled ambitious plans for sweeping changes, including the elimination of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and significant reforms at the U.S. Treasury Department aimed at reducing annual entitlement payments to individuals lacking Social Security numbers by over $100 billion. The HHS contract cancellations mark another instance of DOGE's scrutiny across federal agencies, with the department joining a list of recent targets in the quest to eliminate waste within the government. The Fauci exhibit, slated for completion by July 2025, has now been scrapped alongside $182 million in other HHS administrative expenditures. Fauci, a highly polarizing figure, has frequently clashed with former President Donald Trump. In a recent development, Trump revoked the taxpayer-funded security detail previously assigned to Fauci, a detail requested in 2020 when he served as the government's primary spokesperson during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'I think, you know, when you work for government, at some point your security detail comes off and, you know, you can't have them forever,' Trump stated regarding the decision. 'We took some off other people, too, but you can't have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government.' Fauci, however, received a preemptive pardon from former President Joe Biden on his last day in office, intended to shield him from potential retribution from Trump during his second term, although Fauci had not been charged with any crimes at the time of the pardon. Prior to his role as the chief medical advisor during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fauci spent nearly 30 years as the director of the NIAID, from 1984 to 2022. His career began at the National Institutes of Health in 1968, and he garnered widespread acclaim for his efforts to combat HIV/AIDS before becoming the public face of the government's response to the pandemic. HHS has yet to respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment
