District 7 Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito is pushing steeper fines for owners of dogs that repeatedly escape their yards
Victims of two vicious dog attacks joined a San Antonio city council woman Wednesday to show support for her proposal calling for tougher penalties for owners of dogs that repeatedly escape their property. Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito , who represents District 7 on the West Side , also is asking San Antonio Animal Care Services to sterilize all dogs taken into custody by the agency before allowing owners to reclaim those animals.
Pass the Ramon Najera Act to better hold dog owners accountable Paul Anthony Striegl Jr., 47, was mortally injured when he was attacked by his next-door neighbor's American Staffordshire terrier while sitting in his yard, smoking a cigarette, in a Northeast Side trailer park on Sept. 5. Doctors had to amputate his left forearm. Striegl died Oct. 1 at Brooke Army Medical Center. At times, the victims became emotional Wednesday.
