Condominium dwellers were urged yesterday to check their buildings and file complaints against developers if they are not protected with earthquake alarm machines.Appearing at the Partylist Forum in the Lower House, 1Pacman Parytlist Rep. Eric Pineda said local government units and national government agencies were not exempted from the mandatory installation of the Earthquake Recording Instrumentations or accelerograph alarms.
“I already informed the House leadership that the Batasan building may not be safe due to the absence of the alarm system,” he told reporters yesterday. “The same responsibility falls on the shoulders of owners and developers of condominium buildings and other commercial structures,” said Nograles.“They set parameters and record data for subsequent analysis and trigger alarms if a quake has the intensity to cause serious damage to a structure, giving occupants a better perspective on making decisions,” Pineda explained in his privilege speech last Tuesday.
Pineda also warned that inferior quality machines were available in the market, and should be avoided by builders and developers.
