The Los Angeles Dodgers have been incredibly active during the off-season, signing multiple high-profile players. This influx of talent has created a roster crunch, leading to speculation that the team will soon trade a player. Ryan Brasier, a right-handed reliever, is seen as a likely candidate.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been the most active team in Major League Baseball this off-season, but their flurry of moves doesn't appear to be slowing down. Their spending spree began in late November with the signing of Cy Young award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract. Just days later, the Dodgers extended utility man Tommy Edman on a five-year, $74 million deal.

On the eve of the Winter Meetings, the Dodgers made a surprise move, signing outfielder Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million contract. That same night, it was reported that reliever Blake Treinen was returning to Los Angeles on a two-year, $22 million deal. At the end of December, the Dodgers finally agreed to a deal with outfielder Teoscar Hernández, bringing him back on a three-year, $66 million pact. Then, in another surprise move, the Dodgers signed Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim to a three-year, $12.5 million deal, which led to the trade of infielder Gavin Lux. On January 17th, the prized free agent of this year's class, Roki Sasaki, announced he was signing with the Dodgers. Two days later, the Dodgers sent the baseball world into a frenzy by also signing All-Star reliever Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million deal. Days later, there were reports about the Dodgers signing All-Star reliever Kirby Yates. He passed his physical and finally signed on Tuesday night. With the influx of moves, the Dodgers now face a roster crunch. Before the Yates signing becomes official, Los Angeles will have to clear a 40-man roster spot. A trade is likely, and Valentina Martinez of On SI believes right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier could be on the move. Brasier, 37, is coming off a 2024 season in which he made just 29 appearances, sporting a 3.54 ERA across 28 innings. While Brasier has been solid with the Dodgers since joining midway through the 2023 season, he's not exactly a necessity following this offseason's signings. The Dodgers will open the 2025 season with a six-man rotation and seven-man bullpen. Assuming everyone is healthy, that seven-man bullpen will likely look something like this: Yates, Scott, Treinen, Alex Vesia, Anthony Banda, Michael Kopech, and Evan Phillips. Thus, Brasier would be the odd man out, and even if someone isn't fully healthy for Opening Day, the Dodgers have other options to fill the bullpen as they get healthy. Those include Dustin May, Michael Grove, and Ben Casparius, among others. That's why Brasier makes a ton of sense as a potential trade candidate, especially since he's owed $4.5 million in 2025, his final year of team control. That contract would be great value for a team in need of a reliever and would save the Dodgers a little money after their very expensive offseasons in back-to-back years.
