The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed free-agent left-handed reliever Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million contract. Scott's deal includes $21 million in deferred salaries. He will earn $11 million in each of the first two seasons and $15 million apiece in 2027 and 2028. Additionally, $5.25 million of each year's salary will be deferred. The contract also includes a conditional $5 million option for 2029 that can be exercised if Scott suffers a defined injury and has not been traded.
If he plays under that option year, he could earn an additional $4 million in performance bonuses. Scott's performance bonuses could amount to $1.5 million based on games pitched: $500,000 for 67 games and $1 million for 72 games. He could also earn $2.5 million for games finished: $750,000 each for 30 and 35 games finished, and $1 million for 40 games finished.Scott's contract also includes perks such as a hotel suite on road trips and an agreement to donate 1% of his earnings to the team charity. Scott, 30, was a first-time All-Star last year, posting a 9-6 record with a 1.75 ERA and 22 saves in 24 chances split between Miami and San Diego, who acquired him on July 30. He struck out 84 batters and walked 36 in 72 innings pitched.The Dodgers have been active in bolstering their bullpen this offseason, and Scott's acquisition adds another potent arm to the mix. He joins a formidable group that includes veteran closer Craig Kimbrel and rising stars like Evan Phillips and Brusdar Graterol. The Dodgers are hoping that Scott's addition will help them contend for another World Series title in 2025
