Left-hander Caleb Ferguson is the latest Dodgers player about to become a father. Ferguson’s wife, Carissa, is expecting the couple’s first child any day now. In fact, the due date was Thursday.
“She’s doing fine,” Ferguson said of his wife. “I think she just wants to be done, you know what I mean?”“I think, for sure, it’s been in the back of my mind constantly,” he said. “But I don’t think there’s anything I can do. It’s out of my hands.” Ferguson said his main worry now is that the baby waits to make his debut until the Dodgers are in Milwaukee for a three-game series beginning Monday. That would make it more challenging for him to get back to Los Angeles for the birth.Trayce Thompson was unavailable for two games earlier this week due to illness. Now Max Muncy is battling the same flu-like symptoms.
Muncy played Friday despite feeling ill but left the game in the eighth inning. He was in the lineup Saturday at DH.Designated hitter J.D. Martinez continued to increase his activity level in anticipation of a return early next week. Martinez has been out for two weeks with a back injury but began taking batting practice on Friday.
