Dodgers address starting rotation and bullpen needs, sending outfielder Trayce Thompson and minor-league pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure to Chicago
LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers’ search for pitching help led them to the South Side of Chicago.
Thompson is currently on the injured list with an oblique strain and began a minor-league injury-rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier this week. But he adds veteran experience and a history of reliability to a rotation that has featured three rookies providing uneven results. Lynn has thrown at least 150 innings in a season eight times and pitched into the sixth inning in 14 of his 21 starts for the White Sox this season. He also has a career-high strikeout rate this season .
Lynn has approximately $6.6 million in salary still to come this season plus a 2024 option for $18 million with a $1 million buyout – a potential hedge on rotation depth with Julio Urias and Clayton Kershaw potential free agents this fall. Kelly has approximately $3.2 million in salary left this season plus a 2024 option for $9 million or a $1 million buyout.
