University of Cincinnati doctors are urging you to use caution and follow proper procedures when clearing snow.
CINCINNATI - Snow removal companies, big and small, across our area have already begun pre-treating parking lots and driveways for people ahead of the impending weather. A lot of companies and people are offering their services to ensure driveways and businesses stay as clear of snow as possible.
But if you aren’t relying on help this weekend and opt to remove snow yourself, University of Cincinnati doctors are urging you to use caution and follow proper procedures.“I like plowing snow. It’s fun and I make a little bit of extra money,” Chenot said. “I’ve just been going around pre-treating driveways so it’s easier to get the snow off of it. Just put a little bit of salt, calcium, and chloride down.”“We just have to get equipment ready and get plows on trucks and salt boxes on trucks just to get everything ready to go,” LeGrand said. LeGrand said his company does snow removal mostly for local businesses. It gives his crew something to do during the winter months. “We just try to keep all of our guys busy and snow is one thing we can do. We can’t build a fence when it’s snowing so we push snow” he said. Bill’s focus is more residential. He asks if you’re able to clear your driveway of items prior to his arrival; it always helps. But if you’re not relying on a Bill or a Larkin this weekend, doctors at the University of Cincinnati are urging you to use caution when removing snow yourself. “As a neurosurgeon, we treat brain and spine injuries and it’s really important to make sure that you prevent falls, especially on ice,” Dr. Rani Nasser said. “It’s important to use the right tools. Using a shovel, for example, can really help you from straining your back and that can really prevent a disc herniation, which is something we see a lot,” Dr. Rani Nasser.“We see herniated discs, compression fractures and acute nerve injury every winter from improper shoveling and improper posture,” Dr. Rani Nasser. Dr. Nasser says he also encourages everyone to stay off the roads completely this weekend, if possible. And if you do have to drive, do not forget that seat belt. He says it’s really the only thing that will protect you out on the roads.Victim identified in murder-suicide at Orrville power plantOhio drivers warned about ‘puffing’ law ahead of winter storm
