As the COVID-19 pandemic trudged on, San Antonio and Bexar County leaders worked together many times. But the announcement highlighted a breakdown in communication around public health.“I’m obviously concerned about it because I don’t want to see two different agencies overlapping and wasting taxpayer money,” District 10 Councilman Clayton Perry said.into the division, calling it a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity.
Prior to the county’s announcement, city and county officials were already talking about updating the agreement to better reflect Bexar County’s growth. Even if Metro Health does serve people outside city limits, they don’t always know it, Ramos said. It’s a matter of getting word out to them, she said.. Bexar County gained 294,551 residents from 2010 to 2020, including 107,000 within San Antonio city limits, Census data shows.
