When will we be able to file for the over-65 exemption?Only one of you needs to be over 65 to qualify for the over age 65 homestead exemption. Therefore, you and your wife will be able to file the required form in the county where you live once your wife reaches age 65 in 2024.
Once the exemption is granted, if your wife dies before you reach age 65, the exemption will remain in effect. The rule is that as long as you are 55 years of age or older if your wife dies and you own the home, you can continue the exemption.I need to add two names to the list of beneficiaries in my will which was prepared by an attorney.
