Failing batteries, old air-filters and blocked vents are the three main issues that Edwin Soto said he sees when he gets calls about broken heating systems

Failing batteries, old air-filters, and blocked vents are the three main issues that Edwin Soto, the owner of E & G Heating and Cooling said he sees when he gets calls about broken heating systems. "I get so many calls already that the chimneys have been blocked, and I have to pull the flue pipe, clean the chimney base, and reinstall the chimney for it to vent properly," said Soto.

“What happens is, if it cannot remove the heat properly, than your system is going to detect that and it's going to shut it off on high limit.” Soto said there are a few things he hopes to see, and some he doesn’t, that indicate a heating system is working properly. "It fires up, I'm looking at what I want to see here is blue flames. Blue flames are very, very important. I don't want any orange, no yellow,” said Soto. " looking for a flame actually rolling out, flickering. If I see that, that's giving me an indication that the system in here is cracked.” In a generic heating inspection, Soto said it’s important to test the oxygen and carbon monoxide levels in the home. “I have found a cracked heat exchanger. That’s no good. That actually produces carbon monoxide and that’s when the front starts malfunctioning and people could die in their sleep" He said a working carbon monoxide detector is actually more important than a working heater. "It's a good idea once you replace the batteries or you check the back on your thermostat, do the same thing with your camera monoxide detector. It will save lives." So, how can you prevent a broken heating system and stop steam from coming out of your furnace, and your ears? "Do a visual inspection. Make sure you know there's no signs of any cracks or any wires on the burn... rodents also, just make sure you know that everything's all clear out,” said Soto.Soto said this time of year when people are turning on their heating systems for the first time, that he is booked out with service calls two weeks in advance. So make sure to inspect those heaters sooner rather than later as a cold front moves in to Central PA.Wegmans Food Markets is recalling a cheese product that has been sold in Pennsylvania recently due to a potential presence of Listeria, the FDA announced.Detective who promised two years ago to find Harrisburg teen’s killer delivers on that promise two days ago, his mother says.An Upper Allen man is facing charges after he reportedly robbed and got into a fight with a victim after returning to the home where he was arrested at only houMultiple fire departments were called to battle an intense house fire in Conewago Township Saturday morning.Dispatch confirmed the fire was first reported arounMultiple people are reportedly injured and trapped after a two-vehicle crash in Lancaster County, dispatchers confirm. The crash was reported around 9:41 p.m. a
