Detectives say they located an undocumented immigrant matching the description of a wanted man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager in West Palm Beach on Jan. 3.

The suspect, Santo Omar Martinez-Varela, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on counts of sexual assault of a minor and false imprisonment. On Jan. 3, deputies say that Martinez-Varela approached a 13-year-old girl near Pinehurst Park and Forest Hill Blvd in West Palm Beach around 11 p.m. and began to forcibly sexually assault her.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office , Martinez-Varela crossed the Mexican border illegally in 2023 from Honduras, traveling to West Palm Beach without any contact with Border Patrol or law enforcement.

The department subsequently released dark grainy photos showing the suspect on a bike fleeing the scene, which gave little indication of what the suspect looked like. Deputies say that a DNA search warrant was obtained for Martinez-Varela which confirmed the suspect's identity.Subscribe to our YouTube channel
