Donald Kargbo-Reffell is already serving a 12-year term for a 1999 rape that was also solved by improved scientific techniques

A rapist has been jailed 18 years after raping a teenager - after a DNA breakthrough led to his conviction. Donald Kargbo-Reffell raped the 14-year-old girl in Bedford in March 2006.

Kargbo-Reffell, who was 37 at the time of the offence, is already serving a 12-year sentence for a rape he committed in 1999, which was also solved using improved scientific techniques. In the latest case, Kargbo-Reffell convinced the girl to go with him to a friend’s flat and plied her with alcohol before raping her.

He was put on the sex offenders' register for life and is banned from making contact with any child under the age of 18. The woman he attacked was praised for her courage by the judge.
