Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told local leaders she received threats as charges over former President Donald Trump’s alleged interference in Georgia’s 2020 election results are expected to drop this month.
In an email to county commissioners, Willis said she received a threat last Friday and implored leaders to “stay alert” and “stay safe” ahead of the possible indictments. The district attorney’s office will announce the charging decisions by Sept. 1, when the grand juries’ terms end, NBC News reported.Willis said the written threat contained the N-word and called her a “Jim Crow Democrat whore.”
“I am also aware of some equally ignorant voice mails coming in both to the county customer service and my office,” she wrote in her email. “I expect to see many more over the next 30 days.”The two grand juries in Fulton County, Georgia, will determine whether Trump will face charges related to election interference within the state after a monthslong investigation. Despite the threats, Willis is reportedly “ready to go” once the juries issue a decision.
“I have every intention of doing my job,” Willis said. “Please make decisions that keep your staff safe.”
