We're well and truly in the era of video game adaptations, with countless great modern movies and shows stemming from the world of gaming. These fictional settings often create so much potential to transition into other media, and with one recent game making a buzz online, it should learn from Arcane if it ever gets turned into a televised series.
Having brought League of Legends' unique locations and characters to life while giving them captivating stories, Netflix's Arcane became one of the decade's best shows, as evidenced by its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Each episode is expertly crafted, with the animation setting the bar extremely high for other animated shows to match. Additionally, Arcane has one of the best TV soundtracks ever, with each song packing an emotional punch for various reasons, creating a final product that will stick with viewers for years to come. While there are other gaming adaptations out there that are arguably better, Arcane provides the blueprint to follow, and I really hope one new release follows in its footsteps. Dispatch Hasn’t Fully Released Yet, But It Already Deserves A Major TV Adaptation AdHoc Studio's Dispatch released worldwide on 22 October 2025, but with the game dropping new episodes every two weeks, the full story won't be playable until November 12. Despite this, the hype and fanfare for the game already make it worthy of a TV adaptation, and there is no doubt the IP would absolutely thrive in this environment. The project has some truly legendary voice actors on board, like Laura Bailey, while also having Aaron Paul in the leading role, which feels like an instant selling point if a show followed the same characters. Likewise, its choice-based narrative means it already plays out like an interactive story, making it perfect for an on-screen adaptation. Depending on how the game ends, a TV series would potentially be better suited following new faces, but the popularity of the growing franchise means it wouldn't be too difficult to get more recognizable actors on board. Fortunately, Dispatch already has the personality and world-building that would make viewers more than happy to invest in brand-new superheroes and dispatchers. The game may still be in its infancy, but there's no doubt Dispatch has a very bright future ahead of it, and given Arcane went on to be one of the best animated shows ever made, Ad Hoc Studio's first-ever production would be wise to adopt some of the Netflix hit's biggest qualities if it ever transitions to TV. Dispatch’s Fictional World Has So Much Adaptation Potential Considering how successful both The Boys and Invincible have been in recent years, it's reasonable to assume that Dispatch's wacky world of superheroes could reach similar heights, especially with how solid the writing is. Even halfway through the story, gamers already feel a huge attachment to most characters, and the narrative is filled with great humor alongside engaging action sequences. More importantly, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Dispatch, as we've only really explored one precinct despite learning there is plenty more in this fictional universe. The game has also confirmed there are people working at SDN who originate from other planets, meaning the franchise isn't restricted to Earth. Many of Invincible's strongest characters come from different planets, and this blend of different personalities has worked wonders for the superhero IP. Therefore, Dispatch could also lean into this, but even if it keeps things grounded for a while, it has a distinct brand of comedy that could easily make a TV adaptation extremely popular. The late GOTY contender has also introduced unique traits that make its heroes stand out, such as Invisigal being asthmatic yet having to hold her breath to turn invisible. It's these small yet critical details that make Dispatch so memorable, and if it were to bring this creativity onto the small screen, a TV show would surely be phenomenal. Could A Dispatch Adaptation Be As Successful As Arcane Or The Last Of Us? At first glance, Dispatch's potential may seem almost limitless, but surpassing the likes of Arcane and The Last of Us won't be easy. An adaptation of the superhero game would likely lean mostly towards comedy, but even if it did go for a more serious and emotional tone, the franchise is a long way from becoming a mainstream juggernaut. In contrast, League of Legends is a massive online game, and even those who have no interest in playing it are likely familiar with it. Interestingly, The Last of Us is arguably even bigger, and the first game is often considered one of the best of all time, making it no surprise that it had such a huge adaptation on HBO. Still, despite an incredible first outing, The Last of Us season 2 was extremely divisive, even more so than the second game, while Arcane also faced criticism for certain character arcs and a rushed ending. As a result, a Dispatch show could potentially exceed these projects in quality, even if it doesn't become quite as big. It may end up resembling the likes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners or Castlevania, which were extremely well-received despite not being as popular as the competition. This proves that Dispatch could undoubtedly have a bright future on TV and become a certified hit, especially with how the game is panning out. Therefore, even if it doesn't become quite as successful as Arcane or TLOU, Dispatch has all the tools needed to triumph, and I hope we see plenty from this fictional universe over the coming years. Arcane is an animated series set in the League of Legends universe, debuting in 2021. It explores the conflict between the affluent city of Piltover and the oppressed undercity of Zaun. Central to the story are two sisters whose allegiance to opposing sides of a technological and ideological war strains their bond.
