As per Variety, Disney has pushed its Mufasa: The Lion King release date as part of broader schedule shuffling. Originally supposed to release on July 5, 2024, the film will now hit theaters on December 20, 2024. This delay comes with a series of other delays from Disney, including Deadpool 3, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts.

Despite widespread criticism of its alleged “live-action” status , 2019’s The Lion King remake was a massive financial success. Bringing in over $1.6 billion at the global box office, it's currently the ninth highest-grossing film of all time.
The Lion King is also the highest-grossing of Disney's recent wave of remakes - 2017's Beauty and the Beast is the second-highest at $1.26 billion. It was released on July 19, 2019, making it a summer release; had Mufasa: The Lion King been released on its original schedule, Disney would have been attempting to repeat this phenomemon. However, with its new release date, the prequel is pivoting to be a holiday-period release, which will inevitably change Disney's marketing strategy.This might not be bad news for Mufasa.
