Xavier Samuels as Donovan in 'Send Help'
Sam Raimi has developed quite a name for himself as one of the most legendary directors of all time. Many fans know Raimi for his work in the comic book genre, particularly directing all three of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies, which paved the way for the modern MCU as we know it to flourish.
Raimi returned to the world of comic book directing a few years ago with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which also allowed him to flex his horror muscles for one of Marvel’s spookiest projects. Long before he was directing web-swinging scenes in New York City, though, Raimi was at the helm of some of the most iconic horror movies of all-time, like Army of Darkness and Evil Dead, which were released in the '80s and '90s.
Earlier this year, Sam Raimi returned to the horror genre with the hit thriller Send Help, which stars Rachel McAdams opposite Dylan O’Brien. The film debuted to widespread acclaim, earning scores of 93% from critics and 87% from audiences on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, and it also found success at the box office. Send Help grossed $94 million globally against a relatively modest $40 million budget, meaning it smashed its break-even point.
The film is the perfect blend of Lost and Evil Dead, perfect for fans of psychological horror thrillers set against the backdrop of a deserted island. Following a successful run in theaters and on VOD, Send Help just recently debuted on Hulu in America, where it quickly became the platform’s most popular movie. It’s also experiencing similar success on Disney+ around the world, where it sits comfortably at #1 worldwide.
