Disney wants to release two StarWars games each year, according to a new report. AAA titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will allegedly be joined by smaller-scale projects along the lines of 2020's Star Wars: Squadrons.
Disney wants to release two new Star Wars games every year, according to a new report. Although the galaxy far, far away saw numerous video game releases over the 1990s and 2000s, the 2010s were much quieter - due in part to EA's now-defunct deal with Disney to exclusively develop Star Wars titles. EA's tenure with the Star Wars license was marred with controversy, with both Star Wars Battlefront games developed by Battlefield makers DICE falling afoul of criticism at launch.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY EA's exclusive deal to make Star Wars games officially ended a few years ago, but the publisher is still invested in the license. EA announced that no less than three new Star Wars games were in development earlier this year, including the highly-anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Rumored Star Wars Game Release Strategy Evokes LucasArts' Heyday It might still take some time for this supposed plan for two new Star Wars games every year to be implemented, as while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is rumored to launch sometime in 2023, several of the previously mentioned new titles are reportedly years away from release.
Despite LucasArts releasing multiple Star Wars games a year during its mid-2000s peak, there is also the risk of Disney oversaturating the market with new Star Wars games by releasing a new one every six months. That said, the upcoming line of Star Wars titles seems to have enough variety in settings and gameplay styles to hopefully avoid this - especially if the plan is to alternate between massive AAA-style blockbusters and smaller Star Wars gaming fare.
