Disney Plus users could soon have to pay to add extra users as the company launches a crackdown on password sharing … and it's coming soon
Bad news if your family loves watching Disney Plus and you’re using a friend or relative’s password to log in. The streaming service – which is known for popular shows including Star Wars and The Bear – has announced it’s launching a crackdown on password sharing. And it’s starting in June.
What does the password crackdown mean for users? Disney Plus’ terms of service say that a subscription can only be used within a ‘household’. Which means the people living there. The crackdown means that subscribers will be asked to pay for users outside their household. The move is designed to boost Disney Plus subscriber numbers and make the business profitable.
However, the move follows in the footsteps of Netflix which began cracking down on password sharing last year. Netflix now allows people to buy ‘extra member slots’ for £4.99 a month, so Disney Plus could potentially charge a similar rate.
