With ESPN and other Disney channels having gone dark for millions of Charter customers, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts urged the companies to resolve the dispute.
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, who runs the country’s largest cable company, said Wednesday that he hoped Walt Disney and Charter would come to a resolution around the dispute that has caused ESPN and other Disney-owned cable networks to go dark in millions of homes.
Charter Communications customers can’t currently watch programming from Disney-owned networks like ESPN, ABC, FX, and the Disney Channel. Charter CEO Christopher Winfrey has warned that the current linear television business is broken, and that the company might not ever reach a new agreement with Disney .
“The consumer wants simplicity, aggregation, and the most bang for their buck—this dispute is putting tension around some of those issues, Roberts said Wednesday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference in San Francisco. “I hope they work it out…Each company is dealing with their version of this transformational moment.”
