Disgust as Manchester playing fields wall daubed with anti-monarchy graffiti following Queen's death

Vandals who daubed anti-monarchy graffiti on a Manchester playing fields wall have been slammed. Two messages appeared on the wall on Hough End Fields in Withington this morning as Charles was officially declared King.A second message, beside it, added: "No tears for Lizzy, end the Monarchy now". Residents and walkers expressed their disgust following the Queen's death on Thursday.

"But when I saw it, I thought it was totally out of order. Whatever we think about the monarchy and whether we should be a republic, we have to show respect after death of a 96-year-old lady who was our head of state for 70 years." Last month, fences appeared on-site for the work. On seeing them, Peter Lythgoe, of the Save Hough End Fields group, told the M.E.N he couldn't believe 'they’ve insisted on going ahead with this given the current circumstances'.
