The free DisFest, a celebration of disabled creativity inhabits ChiCulturCenter on Sat 7/22. Expect interactive theater games, film screenings, tech workshops, & pop-up performances from hip-hop & jazz performers, improv comedians, & acrobats. ✍️ kdc

participants of all abilities are invited to explore the big rule of improv: saying “yes” to each other’s ideas. “I’m a theater person, so I’m really excited about that one,” says Lomnicki. “I’m really hoping that people come away going, ‘Oh my God, that was fantastic.’ Disabled people can do whatever they want to and make beautiful art. It’s that real-life, human connection, you know?”

“There’s making sure you have accessibility service providers and such things, but then there’s just making people feel welcome,” says Freidheim. “True inclusion to me is about being open to everyone, and not being about the check boxes. I think that while people are becoming aware of captions and ASL, other things like audio description of visuals and access offerings for people identifying as neurodivergent are more unknown. So with DisFest we wanted to be accessible to everyone.
