Here’s a look at all the Michelin restaurants across Texas, including Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and beyond.
Statewide, there were 45 Bib Gourmand restaurants for restaurants offering good quality at a good value. The rule of thumb is that a diner at a Bib Gourmand restaurant can have two courses, along with a glass of wine or dessert, for $50 before tax or tip to gain this designation.Fifty-seven restaurants were selected as “Recommended” by Michelin. Recommended signals restaurants that were still of-note to inspectors, but did not qualify for a star-rating or Bib Gourmand.
There were four special awards extended by Michelin to individuals in the industry. Those were as follows: Julian Shaffer of Dallas’ Rye won the Michelin Exceptional Cocktails Award; Steven McDonald of Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Houston, the Michelin Sommelier Award; Hailey Pruitt and Lauren Beckman of Mixtli in San Antonio, the Michelin Outstanding Service Award; and Edgar Rico of Nixta Taqueria in Austin, the Michelin Young Chef/Culinary Professional Award.
Michelin inspectors evaluate restaurants on five criteria: product quality; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of flavors; the personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine; and consistency over time and across the entire menu. Michelin says the same consistency and fairness are applied in any market as much as they are in Paris or New York.Here’s a look at the Michelin restaurants in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, presented by city in alpha order..
