Disabled Manc dogs see sand and the sea for the very first time

A group of disabled dogs who have found a loving home in Greater Manchester experienced the sand and sea for the first time last week on a special beach day out.

Footage shows the joy of the 'handicans' as they were taken to Formby beach by the team at Dogs4Rescue, a kennel-free sanctuary in Greater Manchester. The pups can be seen running around, enjoying the freedom of the beach, and happily splashing in puddles. At Dogs4Rescue, they what they can do, not what they can’t, according to the sanctuary. The 'handicans' are a group of six rescue dogs who have been brought together from different background to enjoy their life in Greater Manchester. Bran, Lollipop, Odin, Clive and Laika are given all the help they need to lead rich, happy and fulfilling lives.

They have sad stories - Bran, 6, was hit by a vehicle in Spain and lay paralysed by the road for 5 days before he was rescued. Lollipop, 2, was found paralysed as a puppy in Ukraine. And Laika, 10, was shot by a restaurant owner in Bulgaria which left her double incontinent. She was the very first dog rescued by Dogs4Rescue almost 10 years ago.

But the sanctuary needs your help. They are fundraising to open the doors of Dogs4Rescue’s new site - a 41 acre sanctuary and rehabilitation retreat for the dogs no one wants. You can donate here.
