) - USA Health offered education and support to families of children with special needs during a disability resource fair this morning at the Strada Center.
Right through the front door, parents were able to get crucial information about resources they may not have known about. “They may not realize what’s available to them. So each month we try to feature different agencies that provide services and support. And even if there’s not an agency here that they need to connect with, usually someone here can get them connected to that resource for them,” Michelle McDaniel, the Director of USA Regional Autism Network said.
One of those resources is Alabama’s early intervention system. They work with parents of children ages zero to three and three to five. “If your child is having the type of disability in the area of social, emotional, cognitive, adaptive, physical. You may have your child and you see that your child is lacking in a certain area. Maybe they’re not talking when they need to be talking or crawling when they need to be crawling,” District Early Intervention Coordinator Contrice Rabb said. After that, goals are discussed with the parent to help the child work towards improving in those areas.
