Pokémon and Digimon have been compared for decades, and Pikachu proves that, based on the comparison, Digimon is better (for one specific reason).

Digimon and Pokémon have been compared for decades. While it is pretty fair to say that Pokémon won that particular competition for fans’ attention by remaining incredibly prevalent to this day while Digimon has all but fallen into obscurity, Digimon are actually better companions than Pokémon–and Pikachu himself proves why.

In the first episode of the classic ‘90s Pokémon anime, Ash is given a Pikachu as his starter Pokémon despite the fact that Pikachu tend to be a little harder to train than other starter Pokémon . When Ash took off on his quest to be the very best Pokémon trainer in the world, Pikachu barely raised a finger to help him.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Digimon Immediately Connect with their Person as Opposed to Some Pokémon In Digimon Adventure episode 1 , Tai and the gang are transported to the Digital World, and they are immediately met by their own personal Digimon. Each Digimon knows the name of their human, and is immediately excited to help them on their quest to find their home. Not only that, but these Digimon regularly put their own lives in danger to help their person.

Essentially, Digimon are the exact opposite of how Pikachu was in the first episode of Pokémon. Pikachu was cold, distant, and pretty much hated Ash. As a result, Pikachu found himself in the hospital in the second episode of the series, and Ash nearly got himself killed by an angry horde of Spearows. Digimon were not only super happy to be with their person right from the start, but they also didn’t waste any time in helping them, either.

All-in-all it’s no contest, a Digimon is immediately happy to help their person while a Pokémon can just as easily choose to hate their trainer as they can choose to help them–which, for a trainer like Ash who was just starting out, isn’t great. Because of this, it is safe to say that Digimon are better than Pokémon, and Pikachu proves why.
